Knowing misuse is a misdemeanor. The application states a possible penalty of 30 days to six months, a $250 fine, or both. SBE also bars use of voter data to investigate alleged or suspected illegal voter behavior. Harassment, stalking, sale, transfer, and any use outside the sworn electoral purpose are not valid shortcuts.
